Question:
Erica from Deer Park asks:
“I train 4 to 5 days a week with a short run over the weekend. My diet is pretty strict without going overboard, but I’m looking to do something different. I heard about Pilates. Exactly what is it?”

Answer:
The fitness world is always coming up with hot new workouts to challenge us. Pilates, invented by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s, is a method of body conditioning incorporating stretching and strengthening exercising. The Pilates philosophy focuses on training the mind and body to work together. Also, Pilates emphasizes core stability as in Yoga and Martial Arts.

So try a few classes. It’s not for everyone, but you might like the new-found awareness of your body and mind working in synchrony. In any case you should incorporate core stability and balance training in your workout.
